OUR STORY
In 1933, Father Lucien Demers became a priest of the Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens. It gave new impetus to the French-Canadian community in Saskatoon. We saw the creation of groups such as the Ladies of St. Anne and the Canadian Club who organize social activities for the city's Francophones while collecting funds for the church.
The Canadian Club then became the Alouette Club during the 1960s, then became the Association Canadienne-française de Saskatoon (ACFS) in the 1970s. The Fédération des Francophones de Saskatoon was created in 1982, and incorporated on June 21st, 1983.
The Fédération was first set up to organize each year the Francophone Pavilion at FolkFest, the multicultural festival in Saskatoon. She then took over the role of spokesperson for Francophones in Saskatoon, and that of the establishment and promotion of Francophone cultural activities in Saskatoon.
This group was set up with the structure of a federation rather than an association structure. This federation represents the interests of the various Francophone community groups in Saskatoon, as well as the interests of individuals.
LE RELAIS community hall, which hosts our weekly ‘apéro-franco’ happy hour, was set up in 1993, first at 203-440 2nd Avenue North, then from 2005 at 103-308 4th Avenue North.
The building LE RENDEZ-VOUS FRANCOPHONE, located at 308 4th Avenue North, was bought by the Francophone community in December 2008. It is managed by the Fédération des Francophones and hosts LE RELAIS, as well as several organizations that offer services to Francophones in Saskatoon.
The Federation offers a wide range of events and activities accessible to children, youth, and adults of all ages. All activities are organized most of the time in collaboration with other Francophone groups in Saskatoon, aim to provide a cultural and social environment in French, and are open to all members of the community.
