[FR] Ce court métrage explore comment la colonisation interne suédoise a brisé la transmission culturelle et linguistique auprès du peuple tornédalien/kvène/ lantalainen et raconte le cheminement d’une reconnexion personnelle à ses racines.

[ENG] This short explores how Swedish internal colonization disrupted cultural and linguistic transmission among the Tornedalian/Kven/Lantalainen people and tells a personal journey of reconnecting with one’s roots.

[FR] Biographie: ÄLVA JOUBAND-UUSITALO est artiste multilingue et multidisciplinaire et cinéaste émergent.e, établie à Saskatoon depuis 2012. Älva a réalisé son premier court-métrage indépendamment en 2025, entre la Saskatchewan et la Suède, Tulomatka : Le chemin du retour, pour mettre en valeur l’histoire de son identité lantalainen, une minorité ethnique du nord de la Suède. Le court-métrage a gagné le Prix du Jury - Volet amateur au Festival Cinémental à Winnipeg en 2025. En 2026, iel a créé son deuxième court-métrage, Es-tu sámi? lors de la résidence artistique du CCF à Saskatoon.

[ENG] Biography: ÄLVA JOUBAND-UUSITALO is a multilingual and multidisciplinary artist and emerging filmmaker, based in Saskatoon since 2012. Älva independently directed their first short film in 2025, shot between Saskatchewan and Sweden, Tulomatka: Le chemin du retour (The Way Home), to highlight the story of their Lantalainen identity, an ethnic minority from northern Sweden. The short film won the Jury Prize – Amateur Category at Festival Cinémental in Winnipeg in 2025. In 2026, they created their second short film, Are You Sámi?, during the Conseil Culturel Fransaskois artist residency in Saskatoon.
