[ Transportation ]The road infrastructure makes it possible to travel safely and quickly. During the first weeks, you may feel insecure and want to use the bus transit to easily reach the places you want to. City bus transit : you may purchase a single ticket on the bus and ask for a transfer slip to a different bus line if you need to change busses or you may also buy a monthly bus pass. Visit their site for more info. www.saskatoon.ca/org/transit/fares. Taxi : every taxi or cab is equipped with a meter (taximeter) which posts the time, the distance and the price from where you left off to where you arrive. Generally, a car will pick you up in less than 15 minutes. Waiting can be longer in winter because of the road conditions. Here is one of the numbers you can contact: Blue Line Taxi: 306-653-3333. Interurban road transport : there are two main transport companies offering the service of interurban transport: Saskatchewan Company Transportation and Greyhound Lines of Canada. Air transport : the plane is the most common transport used for interurban connection to places that are located at a greater distance. For more information, consult: www.yxe.ca. Railway transport : the transport costs by train are often way more expensive than all the other means of transport. There are two railway companies: Via Rail for the passengers and Canadian Pacific for transporting goods: www.viarail.ca/fr. Rent a car : you can rent a vehicle for one day or a few days at any rent a car agency. The rates and the conditions for renting a vehicle vary from one company to another. There are restrictions for drivers under 25 years of age. Car owner : if you want to purchase a vehicle we advise you to address to a car dealer. The majority of car dealers actually offer a financing plan for the purchase of a car. Car registration and insurances : when you buy or lease a car, you must register it in Saskatchewan under the Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI). The SGI guarantees you minimal protection on your Saskatchewan plates starting right after purchase. If you wish to have additional insurance with more protection, SGI can also accommodate you. Winter conditions : in order to have control of your vehicle in the winter months, it is advised to reduce speed, to be very attentive to the road conditions and to limit your travelling, because the highways can be very slippery. The vehicle must be mechanically sound and winterized to be prepared for the extreme winter conditions. For more information consult the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA): www.caasask.sk.ca.
