[ Health ]Health insurance : the Saskatchewan medical insurance program covers part of the services that are provided by our doctors. The medical coverage is in effect as soon as you make the request even if you receive it only a few weeks after. For more details on the health care system, you can contact: Saskatchewan Health Registration. Health information line : the phone line is open 24 hours, a qualified nurse will answer your questions and direct you to contact the right person depending on which services you require or may need. Family physicians : the general practitioners (or family doctors) are generally working in private clinics. The specialists accept new patients only if they have a referral from a general practitioner. If you are looking for a doctor who speaks French, consult the RSFS at http://www.rsfs.ca. Minor emergencies : if you do not have an appointment scheduled to see your family doctor you should ask your doctor where to go and he will send you to a clinic nearby that doesn't require appointment. Emergencies: 911 is the emergency number to call only if an emergency occurs. You will be able to have access to an ambulance, which will take you to the nearest hospital. By calling this number, you can also reach the firefighters and the police force. Other health sevices : dental care, eye care, and several other health services are generally not covered by your Saskatchewan health insurance. For more information on health insurance benefits, see the Health Coverage in Saskatchewan guide; or www.health.gov.sk.ca/health-benefits.
