Job market in Saskatchewan : finding employment is one of the major factors for the success of your immigration project. To effectively search for employment, you have to get all the information about the job market and must take numerous other steps to be successful.

Certification and professional regulation : in Canada, approximately 20% of employment is regulated by the government. The people who want to work in regulated sectors must obtain a license of regulation from the province in which they live in. For more information: www.cicdi.ca/1/accueil.canada.

Competency recognition: many diplomas obtained abroad are not recognized in Canada. You may perhaps have to obtain a professional recognition in Canada to work in such an occupation or regulated trade. For more information check out the following website: guide.pdf (in English only).

Working standards: in Saskatchewan there are provincial laws regulating the workforce; their goal is to protect the employees and the employers. You may also find further information at any Canadian human rights bureau.

Payment deductions: : according to the law, the employer must retain a certain amount of your wages to pay the following contributions: Pensions of Canada, Insurance Employment, and the Income tax. The employer can possibly offer you other welfare benefits which could also be deducted from your wages.


Minimum wage and duration of working week : since May 1, 2009, the minimum wage was fixed at $9.25 per hour. In regards to the duration of the working time weekly, it is fixed at 35 to 40 hours per week, that is to say usually eight hours per day. For more details, consult: www.labour.gov.sk.ca .

Volunteer work : You can work as a volunteer in any organization or Community organization. The volunteer work can help you to acquire experience and practical knowledge in the job market.
