[ City of Saskatoon ]

The City of Saskatoon was founded in 1883 by colonists coming from the east provinces of Canada. The charter of the creation of the city was obtained in 1903 and its name comes from the expression misâskwatômina in Cree.

Located on the banks of the South Saskatchewan river, Saskatoon is the city of the bridges. No less than 7 bridges cross the river, conveying our city a special enchantment which lead to the commonly used denomination ¨The Paris of the prairies¨ (Paris des prairies).

The climate of Saskatoon has four distinct seasons. The extreme temperatures in the city vary -50°C in the winter with 40°C in the summer. Saskatoon also profits from a relatively dry climate, the summer being the wettest season. A positive aspect of Saskatoon is that with an average of 2,381 hours of sun per year, it is one of the sunniest cities in Canada, equivalent to Greece.

According to the census of 2006 per Canada Statistics, the population of the city of Saskatoon reaches approximately 234.000 inhabitants; the population density of Saskatoon is of 44.9 people per square kilometer; the average age is 35.8 years.

French is the native tongue of 2.750 people and approximately 14.500 Saskatoonians speak the 2 official languages of Canada.
